Here we are into April and the time is flying by it seems extra fast......
As I write this, we have had some really nice days of spring and them cold again, it just keeps teasing us.......
Spring always seem to lighten everyone bring us out of the winter blues that can happen after the dull drums of the winter.
This past week I did something totally out of my comfort zone, I spoke at a networking event here in town on design. Now you might say how is that out of my comfort zone.....
It is, I use to speak all the time and was a cosmetology instrustor for many years and a platform artist for several makeup company's in my former career. But, over time I did less and so it was out of my comfort. But I did it and you know we are always harder on ourselves.
So, what did I talk about? Design, mixing old and new together and how it works.
If you have been with us for any time, this year we RS Home is 10 years old.
RS Home is New Home Decor and Gifts
When we moved our business to Algona, we purchase a 5000+ square ft building. It was split into two store fronts. One we knew that would be RS Home and the other well we were not for sure. Then it came to us. An Antique/Vintage Mall. The creation of Found+Reclaimed. Thus, bringing us to mixing NEW & OLD.
We really have the best of both worlds here under this roof. We currently have 32+dealers
Now I am a realist, I do know not everyone likes vintage and some do not like new. but it is a great mix for those that do or do not.
Let's talk about how mixing old and new can work in your home.
Creating a beautiful home does not mean that you have to have everyting new and be matchy matachy in everything. Your home should feel inviting and be personal, These homes are layered over time.
Creating depth and contrast with the old and new. Not trendy. Trends come and go.
Bring in pieces that bring in the craftsmanship and character from over time. Solid wood funiture that was built to last, it could even be a family piece.
Now new is not a bad thing, it brings in a fresh feel and function. But, when everyting is new a room can feel well temporary and trendy. Which over time will become dated.
Blending new and old the two create something different. You can purchase some of your new decor and mix with timeless pieces as well as some great vintage decor.
Think about mixing that great antique buffet with some great new lamps, Maybe you have a great family table that was grandmas and you love the antique look, but purchase some modern chairs to finish it off.
The contrast creates a great balance, your room begins to feel collected like it was meant to be, not just decorated.
Grouping similar items can make it feel intentional, pieces tell a story about the people who live there. Connecting the past and present remind us that our homes are not just about decorating. Collections, heirlooms that are blended with our everyday pieces makes a room feel more collected and feel like home!
Stop in anytime and let us help you with your decorating needs and blending new and old together, we love making your house a home.
Stay tune, we will be back with some more design inspiration.
Be Blessed,
~Kim
