Easy Winter Decor Ideas for the In Between Season

Easy Winter Decor Ideas for the In Between Season

Have you ever stood in your home right after Christmas and thought "Now What"......

You are NOT alone!   That weird time after Christmas can feel so awkward with decor. Everything feels to Christmas, but Spring feels to soon and your home just feels......Unsure!

This happened much sooner this year for me than normal, not sure if it was because we were sick after the holidays or I was just feeling the need for change before the New Year hit. But I found a great way to make the change and still make things feel fresh.

I am going to share with you what to take out and what to keep so your home with still feel warm, cozy, and intentional all throughout January and into Mid February without rushing to the next season.

First thing First~ Time to remove anything that screams holiday,

~red accents

~Glittery ornaments

~The big old Christmas Tree

~Bells, stocking, Santas

~Reindeer, and Christmas Signs

Clearing them out gives your home a fresh and calm start.  This alone makes everything else feel intentional.

What to KEEP.  ~ Keep these items and style them

~Winter greens i.e.: cedar, pine eucalyptus

~Smaller Flocked trees or green trees

~Snowflakes neutral

~ Candles with white twinkling lights

~ Cozy Blankets, plush pillows

~Pinecones, winter stems

These create a peaceful winter atmosphere and can make your home feel warm and inviting.   Think calm, soft and layered. The very opposite of all the December craziness.

If you feel you need to add after taking down and you need additions to help bridge the gap, here are a few things to add to your winter decor.

Simple additions:

~Faux fur or sheepskin rugs great to drape over a chair or add to your table Centerpiece.

~Neutral Pillows ~ knit, linen or subtle patterns.

~Layered throws on the Sofa or bed.

~ Vintage Wood pieces, cutting boards or trays

~Warm. soft lighting, candles, sconces or lamps.

Winter decor is very versatile, neutral colors, cozy textures and natural elements are beautiful with all decorating styles.

Styling Winter Decor ~Not Boring

Focus on texture not theme

~Layer knits, faux fur and linen

~Stick to whites and creams, soft browns or muted greens

~Add warmth with lighting instead of color

~For a minimalist winter look, keep surfaces uncluttered.

Keep your home looking cozy while still feeling fresh and calm during January with defiantly give us all a little peace we crave right now.

I hope this helps fill the weird gap between now and spring decor and helps to not feel rushed and bare.

When you start to get ready for the next season transition slowly:

~Swap the winter greens for fresh florals

~Introduce soft spring tones and textiles little at a time

Cheers to the new year and to your winter decor.
